If you make a horror poster too dark and grim then it's just too much, and it ends as overkill and overload. A lot of the posters now seem stained with the excess darkness of the actual film's content. So my choices are affected by that. #1. IT - Classic, simple, effective capturing of one of the most infamous scenes of the novel and story, pitching it's creepy and freakiest of taglines. The definitive horror movie and poster of the year to me. #2. Happy Death Day! - Evoking the kooky, campfire aspect of surrounding the Birthday theme of the story combined with more "date night" fun of the horror genre, with a killer tagline. Taking cake, and also evoking the idea of blood and carnage without resorting to overtly nauseating content. #3. 47 Meters Down - Capturing the concept of the entire story in one basic image. Love the detail of the shark getting angry when the flashlight hits his eye. #4. Dead Awake - I see this poster and it had my imagination spinning as to the movie's sleep paralysis element, along with a helpless terror suspense moment, at the time thinking it was because of a poisonous spider. It's a classic image, in my opinion. #5. Open Water 3: Cage Dive - Basically the same idea as 47 Meters Down but the idea of the cage dangling inadvertently as if food for the shark, with the ocean depth and the shark all permeating in the atmosphere of the poster.

Not completely blown away by originality and creaminess this year but I do like the unusual DOWNRANGE, the haunting IT and the 'what is going on' RAW.
